Luka Doncic recorded a season-high 53 points, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 124-118 comeback victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night at Crypto.com Arena.
The win extended the Lakers' winning streak and improved their record to 8-2 on the season. It also brought their record in NBA Cup Group Play games to 1-1.
Doncic’s performance was particularly notable given his shooting struggles earlier in the game. The Lakers missed their first 15 three-point attempts and made only 3 of 23 shots from beyond the arc. Despite this drought, Doncic ended the first half with a 61-foot buzzer-beating shot as the quarter expired.
The Lakers trailed 60-53 at halftime but dominated the third quarter, outscoring Portland 34-15. During that period, Doncic scored 20 points, effectively outscoring the entire Trail Blazers team on his own.
Austin Reaves contributed 25 points for Los Angeles, despite shooting just 8 of 22 from the field. Walker Kessler recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Portland.
Doncic’s 53 points marked his seventh consecutive game scoring at least 35 points and his fourth straight game with 40 or more. It was also his second 50-point game of the season, following a 52-point performance in a road win against the Utah Jazz on October 25.
As the league’s leading scorer, Doncic continued to anchor the Lakers' offense, providing a crucial spark after a difficult start from long range. The team's ability to overcome their shooting slump allowed them to secure the win and maintain momentum in group play.
