Philippine Authorities Report Progress in Thomas Markle Sr. Child Pornography Probe
Philippine authorities have confirmed that their investigation into Thomas Markle Sr.’s alleged possession of child pornography is progressing, with Acting Director Pmgen Wilson Casueta stating the probe is moving in the "right direction." The inquiry follows allegations by Markle’s son, Thomas Jr., who reported finding graphic materials at his father’s Cebu City residence.
Philippine law enforcement officials have issued a significant update regarding the ongoing investigation into Thomas Markle Sr.’s alleged possession of child pornography, confirming that the probe is advancing. Pmgen Wilson Casueta, the Acting Director of the Philippine National Police, told reporters on Tuesday that authorities are moving in the "right direction" and indicated that a legal case would be filed if sufficient evidence is gathered.
Casueta provided specific details regarding the nature of the materials seized during the initial search of Markle’s home in Cebu City. The acting director revealed that one video contained images of male and female children of both Asian and Caucasian descent, while explicitly noting that no Filipinos were depicted in the material. He emphasized that the investigation is being conducted in partnership with United States law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is simultaneously pursuing its own inquiry.
Casueta also addressed international coordination efforts, hinting that British authorities have not yet established contact with Filipino officials. "Well, only the FBI and the US authorities have reached with our Women’s and Children’s Protection Center," he stated, clarifying the current scope of cross-border cooperation.
The investigation was triggered after Thomas Markle Jr., the 60-year-old son of the subject, reported his father to local police and the FBI. In May, Thomas Jr. went public with disturbing allegations, claiming he had discovered "hundreds, if not thousands" of child sex abuse images at the Cebu home where his father had previously lived. He alleged that the materials included videos of victims described as no older than 10 or 11 years old engaged in sexual acts, alongside books containing images of naked young girls.
Thomas Markle Sr., who is 82 years old, has vehemently denied the accusations. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he dismissed his son’s claims as "bulls–t" and a series of lies designed to destroy him. "It’s just a bunch of lies. It’s sick. I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies," Markle said.
The family dispute has drawn in other relatives. Samantha Markle, Thomas Sr.’s 61-year-old daughter and half-sister of actress Meghan Markle, publicly backed her father. She accused her brother of seeking "revenge" through his allegations rather than acting in good faith.
Complicating the narrative, additional reports emerged shortly after Thomas Jr.’s initial disclosure. A Daily Mail reporter claimed to have uncovered further "vile" materials in an abandoned storage unit rented by Markle in Rosarito, Mexico. The unit, located three miles from Markle’s former home, reportedly contained pornographic books and magazines published in Asia two decades ago, along with photos appearing to show underage girls. Local Mexican authorities raided the unit hours after the report was published, though they have not yet disclosed findings. Philippine authorities declined to comment on these specific reports from Agence France Presse.
Page Six confirmed that officials obtained a warrant in the Philippines to search Thomas Markle Sr.’s digital devices. The Department of Justice’s Office of the Regional Prosecutor VII for Central Visayas stated that "appropriate legal action may be pursued" if there is sufficient evidence to identify any person liable.
Jonvic Remulla, the Philippine interior minister, issued a statement to The Guardian suggesting the gravity of the early evidence. He noted that while family disputes must be considered, "right now all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind." Remulla cautioned that authorities want to be sure before releasing final findings.
Meghan Markle responded to the news by stating she was "deeply distressed" by the developments regarding her father. She revealed that she had received a letter in 2018 containing similar troubling allegations, which she said contributed to the estrangement between her and her father. Following the public disclosure of the investigation, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, left the United Kingdom with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, moving to an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, Thomas Markle Sr.’s condition has been a subject of public scrutiny. He was reportedly moved into a care home for dementia patients on Friday. The 82-year-old was photographed in Lakeland, Florida, seated in a wheelchair being pushed by care facility aides.
